Hatem Abushammala defends his doctoral dissertation with magna cum laude
On the 25th of February 2015, Hatem Abushammala successfully defended his doctoral dissertation entitled “Ionic Liquid-Mediated Production of Nanocellulose Directly from Wood”.
After three years of hard work in the lab he could develop and optimize the first reported process to produce cellulose nanocrystals directly from wood. His work has been translated into several research articles and an invention disclosure. Hatem’s work was mainly funded by DAAD, GIZ, and CAPES through the NoPa Project.
Hatem has decided not to leave his academic family. He will continue exploring other horizons in the field of bio-based materials with us as a Post-doctoral Research Associate and lecturer in the Chair of Forest Biomaterials.
